Camp Russell

Safety is always our first priority here at the Boys & Girls Club of the Berkshires and Camp Russell.  The Department of Public Health and the Department of Early Education and Care have created new regulations for minimum requirements for health and safety at the Club and Camp.  Due to these requirements, the Boys & Girls Club of the Berkshires will be unable to provide transportation for Camp Russell. Parents will need to drop off and pick up at Camp Russell.  If the requirements change as the state of Massachusetts goes through its re-opening phases, we will re-evaluate this policy.  There will be a reduction of $10 per week to our camp fee due to this.

The Camp Experience

2020 Camp Experience

Campers will be organized into age appropriate groups with a 2:10 staff ratio. Siblings will be grouped together in accordance to their ages.

In Day Camp the groups will have individual schedules that follow an itinerary of activities such as swim time, nature adventures, arts and crafts, and group games. In Sports Camp, campers will be learning how to train as athletes as well as learn new skills for their favorite sports.

To promote social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19 group activities will be modified for the campers safety, without losing the fun of Summer Camp. Campers are required to bring a mask every day.  In addition to personal safety measures our camp is being updated to include sanitizing stations in different areas, as well as thorough cleaning after group use in areas.

* Please allow extra time for the drop-off process. Parents/guardians are required to complete a daily screening prior to their child(ren) entering the camp grounds.

Parents/guardians must provide transportation to and from Camp Russell located at 341 Boys Club Rd. Richmond. ** Drop-off is no earlier than 8am and pick-up is no later than 4pm UNLESS you have registered for the After School or Before & After Care extended programs.** If you are registered for one of the extended care programs drop-off is 7:30am and pick-up is no later than 5:30pm.

At this time, campers will need to bring lunch. Camp Russell does not have the ability to heat lunches but can provide a refrigerated area for storage. Please send your camper with a refillable water bottle.

Camp Russell, located on over 200 acres on Richmond Shores, is the summer home of the Boys & Girls Club of the Berkshires.

Day Camp operates from June through August yearly. On any given week,250 – 380 campers attend.

The most influential and genuine learning experiences often occur outside traditional classrooms. These learning experiences generate enthusiasm among young people and leave lasting impressions on their development.

Camp activities include: sailing, water trampoline, water skiing, tubing, kayaking, competitive and non-competitive games, swimming, arts and crafts, animal care, fishing, gardening, hiking, various special events, and field trips.

Camp facilities include: dining hall, infirmary, recreation hall, 2 directors cabins, girls cabin, 2 brick structure cabins, boathouse, wilson storage cabin, pool house, pavilion, and a handicap accessible in-ground wading pool.

The camp grounds offer: playground area, 9-hole miniature golf course, soccer and ball fields, outdoor basketball court,  in ground beach pool and a full waterfront area for swimming and boating.

Summer vacations are an ideal time for members of the Boys & Girls Club of the Berkshires to engage in physical & learning opportunities. The Boys & Girls Club of the Berkshires summer camp activities reinforce important skills that are often not focused on when school is not in session.
