Aquatics Director                           September 2017 Part-time Fall/Winter positions            September 2017

Position Summary

The Boys and Girls Club of the Berkshires seeks to expand our aquatics program to offer a comprehensive array of programs to our membership as well as to explore opportunities for programming to the community.

The Aquatics Director will be responsible for the development, implementation, administration, growth, and evaluation of an effective and innovative aquatics program, ensuring that day-to-day operations run safely and effectively.

The director will be responsible for supervising high quality programs through dynamic planning, as well as direct leadership, instruction and motivation of aquatics staff, to create a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement.

We seek a responsible and engaged leader who has a desire to change lives and create lasting impact on youth and adults in our community.

Primary Functions

Programs
Develop and execute a plan for maximum club / community use of the pool; schedule all pool activities to ensure optimum pool usage;
Develop and schedule programming to include classes, team practice and meets, tournaments, lap swimming, aquatic therapy, water exercise, and other aquatic programs as assigned;
Coordinate outreach to community interests to develop programming;
Ensure high program standards are followed, determine benchmarks and ensure appropriate leadership to meet objectives;

Help coordinate and run the annual Kushi Invitational swim meet & team fundraisers.

Staff
Assist in hiring, training, supervising and scheduling qualified lifeguards, instructors and all other pool staff;

Provide staff with feedback, coaching, guidance and support;
Supervise pool area and ensure lifeguards are monitoring club members and acting professionally at all times;

Recruit volunteers and build effective, supportive working relationships;

Assign clear accountability and ensure continuous improvement.

Training
Coordinate training of staff in water safety, first aid, and CPR;
Ensure that all certifications of staff are maintained;
Provide regular in-service training to staff as needed.

Pool Operations
Perform regular safety inspections of pool and equipment to reduce hazards and to provide maximum safety;

Ensure that all appropriate water, environmental, health and safety standards are maintained; ensure pools are compliant with all local, state and national requirements and current on all necessary certifications required for operation; Ensure pool testing records are being kept up to date and maintain incident reports and lifeguard duty log.

Administrative

Promote existing and new programs and/or policies; Coordinate program scheduling and staff scheduling; Survey patrons and evaluate programs to determine public needs and how to increase program efficiency and effectiveness; receive and responds to patron complaints and suggestions; Ensure equal and fair treatment for all; Perform any other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications
Prior experience coaching and/or working with children; Ability to establish goals, clarify tasks, and plan work effectively; Ability to strive to meet or exceed goals and deliver a high-value experience, embrace new approaches and discover ideas to create a better member experience;

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact with a diversity of people and various levels of personnel;

Ability to thoroughly explain and answer questions related to youth swim lesson goals/objectives for parents or care givers on a regular basis;
Excellent customer service skills, work well with others, and maintain constant, clear communication with COO and other staff;
Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology.
Follow budgeting policies and procedures and participate in the development of annual operating budgets;

Valid CPR/AED & Lifeguard Certification (Preferred: WSI or equivalent swim instructor certification or experience);
